teaching

As an educator, I am continually developing my skills through projects, professional development, and continued involvement in developments in theory and criticism. I have experience teaching college students and non-traditional students, and I am well versed in various art mediums.

I have identified three areas important to being an educator: providing a supportive learning setting where students can question and contemplate, keeping up to date on teaching strategies to assist students to develop confidence and self-sufficiency, and acting as a role model within the community. I believe every individual learns differently; thus, I strive to present information using a variety of teaching approaches. I am sensitive to cultural differences as well as possible learning differences both diagnosed and undiagnosed, encouraging one-on-one meetings with my students for assessment, peer assessment, and working with student learning services to meet students’ individualized needs. One of my personal goals in teaching a class is to create an environment where students feel they are supported. As such, I try to learn as much as I can about the community I serve.
